Marissa Berry, MD, is a Maternal and Fetal Medicine Fellow at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Her research focuses on peripartum infections in individuals with obesity, or infections that occur during late pregnancy or early post-pregnancy.

“Peripartum infections are a major cause of maternal morbidity, and these complications occur more frequently in individuals with obesity,” says Berry. “This research is to evaluate postpartum infectious complications in individuals with obesity in the setting of receipt of routine antibiotic prophylaxis.”

Berry plans on using her Spark Award to help fund data acquisition for analysis to guide further research investigating the use of prophylactic antibiotics for prevention of infectious complications.”

Congratulations to Marissa Berry on receiving a Spark Award and using it to add in the research about peripartum infections. If you are interested in applying for a Spark Award, applications are being accepted on a rolling basis until May 15, 2025, or until funds are exhausted.
